The attached document presents the results from the ballots that were submitted by 42 chapters of UPE. A brief summary of the vote results is shown below.
1. Proposal to reduce the number of Council members from Seven to Six: PASSED
2. Proposal to limit the term of a Council member to one 5-year term: PASSED
3. Proposal to re-state the degree type offered by new chapter applicants: FAILED
4. Proposal to reduce the credit units required for UPE membership: PASSED
The three proposals that have been approved become effective immediately. An updated copy of the UPE Constitution can be viewed in the UPE website. It should be noted that chapters who wish to implement Proposal #4 (reduce the number of credit units for UPE membership) can adhere to this new requirement after they amend their respective chapter constitutions. A hard copy of this updated document must be submitted and filed with the Headquarters of UPE.
Scholarship Applications – Due June 15, 2007
UPE members who expect to register as regular students in Fall 2007 are encouraged to apply for a 2007 UPE Scholarship Award. Cash awards range from $750 to $1,000. Applications must be postmarked no later than June 15, 2007. Each chapter can submit one undergraduate application and one graduate application.
Students should pay attention to the specific application requirements. The Executive Council will only consider “complete” scholarship applications. For example, there is a requirement that all college/university official transcripts must be attached to an application. This implies that unofficial copies of transcripts are not acceptable. The other requirements include, a full resume, chapter adviser recommendation, summary of the applicant’s contributions to her/his department and UPE chapter, and a brief statement regarding the student’s long-term career plans.
UPE Scholarship Application Forms can be downloaded from the UPE website.
